Congo This article on Ms. Magazine's website is something I've read a few times. It is so difficult to get it through my head that this goes on and there is not so much I can do. It makes me feel overwhelmed. Especially after a group of male friends who claim feminism as their sensitivity prize, constantly argue these things, with the standard, "Not AALL men" and "But it's a victim mentality" and "not that bad, how do you make it happen?"
Apparently the outrage that would be needed in this country to actually give women some rights here and in the rest of the world isn't terribly accessible by my "enlightened" "friends."
Well, not exactly friends now.
They finally made me give up on them. Their horrible know-it-allness. The expert on everything even when they have studied NOTHING about it. The way they can't even look at the entitled male crap in their own minds, assuming it's all good, or that it just doesn't matter that much, cause it doesn't matter to them.
What matters to me, as a woman, makes no difference, especially as they speak about my movement, the thing women were doing for women, Feminism. Nope, they just keep trying to make it about them, and their version of fairness as they sit on their asses, drink their drinks and think of clever ways to trick women into seeing how Kneejerk Feminist they are...The only way they can keep their ego intact.
Cause deep inside these men know they are worthless. That they are contributing nothing. That they are fixing nothing in their own psyche and that the women are leaving them behind. |

Of all of the examples of torture availble why mentrual blood? To gross people out? Why? Why is it still considered gross? This quote is Wildly out of context and I'm not picking at his basic argument. But honestly! Ewww did we make them unclean...eewww...darn...poor baby, rolling in woman's dirty stuff.
THE STUFF THAT MAKES BABIES, ASSWIPE! <-directed to all those asswipes out there, you know who you are.
You also know that everyone reading it shuddered a little, thinking, "oh no, what if gets on me tooo...that's awful!" Yes even women. Especially women. When men control women's sexual expression (and they still do, the slut movement still being all about the man in general, girls gone wild indeed!) and reproductive rights, they control us.
And the way to control all of it best is to get the women to believe the ickiness as well. Make the vagina a place to be a little grossed out by. Then you just avoid asking any questions at all! Sure, Shame works!
I've been reading the writings of Rude Pundit long enough to understand how he writes and why and intellectually I don't believe he has any problem with the Red River at all, and yet, it is crazy how I hate it, the phrasing I quoted, the way I see it as an example of "all of those horrors" in my life. All those horrors that kept showing up again and again.
Thank God for growing up. :) |
